Interview with Constantin Boca from Charm Beach Retreat

1. Every hotel begins with a dream. What was the moment when Charm Beach Retreat stopped being an idea and became a real project?

For me, the turning point came the first time I stood inside the property and could clearly imagine people enjoying it. Until then, it was spreadsheets, plans, and endless conversations. But when I walked through the building and looked toward the Mediterranean light coming through the windows, I could picture travelers sharing stories, families creating memories, and guests waking up excited to explore Alicante.

That was the moment it stopped being a dream and became a responsibility—to create a place that people would genuinely love.

2. Why Alicante? Out of all the places in Europe where you could have invested, what made you choose this corner of the Mediterranean?

Alicante has a rare balance that many destinations have lost. It offers beautiful beaches, a vibrant culture, fantastic food, affordable prices and more than 300 days of sunshine a year, yet it still feels authentic and welcoming. People come here looking for relaxation, but they also discover a city full of character. As an investor, I saw potential. As a traveler, I saw a destination I would personally want to return to again and again. That combination made the decision easy.

3. What experience did you want guests to have when they walk through the doors of Charm Beach Retreat for the first time?

I wanted guests to feel an immediate sense of relief. The feeling that they’ve arrived somewhere special and can finally slow down. We designed the retreat to feel warm, bright, and welcoming rather than formal or intimidating. Whether someone has traveled across the world or simply escaped for a weekend, I want their first thought to be: “This is exactly what I was looking for.”

4. Developing a hotel is never easy. What was the biggest challenge you faced, and what did it teach you?

The biggest challenge was balancing ambition with reality. Every developer imagines the perfect version of a project, but budgets, regulations, timelines, and unexpected obstacles force you to adapt. The experience taught me patience and resilience. More importantly, it taught me that creating a great guest experience is not about luxury for luxury’s sake—it’s about getting the details right and staying focused on what truly matters to guests.

5. Is there a guest story that perfectly captures what Charm Beach Retreat is all about?

One story that stays with me involved a couple who initially booked just two nights. They ended up extending their stay because they felt so comfortable and connected to the atmosphere. Before leaving, they told us that they had arrived feeling exhausted from work and everyday stress, but left feeling refreshed and inspired. That is exactly what Charm Beach Retreat is about—not just providing accommodation, but creating space for people to reconnect with themselves, their loved ones, and the joy of travel.

6. If someone stays only one weekend in Alicante, what are the three things they absolutely shouldn’t miss?

First, watch the sunset from Santa Bárbara Castle. The views over Alicante and the Mediterranean are unforgettable.

Second, spend time on Albufereta Beach and Postiguet Beach. The sea is part of Alicante’s identity, and you need to experience it firsthand.

Third, enjoy the local food culture. Wander through the old town, discover traditional tapas, and try an authentic rice dish. Alicante is a city best experienced through its flavors as much as its sights.

7. Five years from now, what do you hope guests will say about Charm Beach Retreat after returning home?

I hope they say, “We felt genuinely welcomed there.” Beautiful buildings and comfortable rooms are important, but hospitality is ultimately about people and emotions. If guests remember the atmosphere, the kindness of the team, and the feeling they had during their stay, then we will have achieved our goal.

8. What is something most people don’t know about Charm Beach Retreat, but you wish every guest discovered during their stay?

Many guests don’t realize how much thought goes into creating a sense of calm. From the design choices and natural light to the layout of the spaces and the local recommendations we provide, every detail is intentional. We aren’t just offering a place to sleep—we’re trying to create an environment that helps people relax, recharge, and experience Alicante in a more meaningful way.
